A Blog About Intellectual Property Litigation and the District of Delaware

We're still on a blog break, and big congratulations to Andrew on welcoming a new baby! I am separately out of office with my own newborn.

Nevertheless, we are looking forward to attending the upcoming Fifth District of Delaware Bench & Bar Conference, which will be held on Thursday, September 25 and Friday, September 26, at the Chase Center on the Riverfront in Wilmington.

The Court cancelled all proceedings and extended all filing deadlines to accommodate the Bench & Bar. Historically, this conference is well-attended, typically boasting several hundred attendees. It is not unreasonable to expect that many District of Delaware practitioners will be tied up during these conference days.

This event occurs only once every two years, and it provides a wealth of practical guidance on best practices within this district. Because Chatham House Rule applies, the best way to get the full benefit is to attend in-person. Topics will be relevant to in-house counsel, practitioners with limited District of Delaware litigation experience, and Delaware counsel.

The Bench & Bar is hosted by the United States District Court for the District of Delaware and the Delaware Chapter of the Federal Bar Association. It features a distinguished lineup of dynamic speakers and panels, including judges from the District of Delaware, the Federal Circuit, the Third Circuit Court of Appeals, and other District Courts from across the country, as well as leading practitioners, in-house counsel, and thought leaders.

Also included is a Thursday evening event at the world-renowned Longwood Gardens, featuring garden tours, a cocktail reception and dinner, and a private show of Longwood’s spectacular fountain display.  Transportation will be provided to Longwood from the Chase Center.

I have had the pleasure of serving as part of the Delaware Chapter Federal Bar Association Executive Board for several years now, and our executive team has been working hard to pull together yet another great conference. Many thanks to Bindu Palapura, Michael Flynn, and Jeff Lyons who are currently serving. Also thanks to Jeff Castellano and Shamoor Anis, who did much of the legwork in planning this conference during the preceding years and continued their support during the transition to new team members.

Many Delaware attorneys (including my co-bloggers, Andrew Russell and Nate Hoeschen) have also contributed their time and talent in assisting with spectacular panels. Do not forget to register, and please consider inviting your colleagues, especially those from out of town who may have upcoming trials in Delaware.

The Delaware Chapter of the FBA also has a new LinkedIn presence. You can follow the page, tag the organization in a post (@Delaware Chapter of the Federal Bar Association), repost about the Bench & Bar, and share your attendance.

Hope to see you at the 2025 Bench and Bar!
